Embrace the Potential of Plastics in a Circular Economy

At Corplex, we firmly believe in the remarkable potential of plastics. Despite the rightful criticism of plastic waste, it’s undeniable that this versatile material has been instrumental in shaping our modern world.

The key lies not in discarding plastics altogether, but in reimagining their lifecycle. We advocate for the elimination of single-use plastics, shifting towards reusable plastic products instead. It’s crucial to maximise the usage of these items for as long as possible before they’re recycled into new products of the same quality.

This approach allows us to unlock the full potential of plastics, a limited yet invaluable resource, without exacerbating its environmental impact. It’s about making the most of all materials, renewable or non-renewable, and applying this principle across all forms of consumption. This is how Corplex is helping businesses transition to a Circular Economy.

We strongly believe that...

Plastics are incredible material

Even though plastic waste is rightly demonised, plastic remains an incredibly useful material that has allowed for the establishment of the modern world.

but we need to extend its lifespan

Singleuse plastics should be eradicated and shifted to plastic products that can be reused. We must be sure to get the most use out of plastic items as long as possible before recycling them to create the same item.

to benefits from its maximum potential

By doing this, we are able to continue to utilize the advantages of plastic, a limited resource, without amplifying the environmental hazards that come with its deposition. In fact, it‘s important to reuse all materials, renewable or nonrenewable, to their maximum potential in all forms of consumption.

It's time to transition...

From the traditional Linear Economy

The present Linear Economy is simply a squandering of our resources especially in cases where these resources are not
renewable and could be used numerous times.

The Recycle Economy extends the life of the materials but generally requires the addition of virgin materials to ensure product quality is maintained.

to the revolution of the Circular Economy

Only the Circular Economy, where materials are re-used to make the same item time and time again, extends the life of the materials.

The circular economy has become a byword for good material usage.

It is, after all, the model that the natural world has given us: discarded materials are used to make new materials.

Indeed, ensuring materials remain in the loop and not replenishing materials to re-manufacture the product is a much better solution than discarding materials and then replacing them with virgin sourced materials: so-called single-use materials.

To make it happen, it's all about partnership...

The 5Rs Principles

The 5Rs is the core principle from Corplex as a way to prioritise waste management strategies,

reduce resource extraction, and energy use. The main objective behind the 5Rs is to optimize the use of the products by:

1. Remove

Eliminating waste is the key to good resource usage, particularly for packaging. First, we need to look to remove any wasteful material usage: does that box really need another box around it to ship it?

2. Reduce

Where there is a need, we should reduce the resource usage to the minimum: does that box really need to be that big?

5. Repurpose

Finally, where the materials have reached the end of their
useful life, is there a way we can repurpose them: can we easily sort
or split them, return them to their constituent parts through
chemical recycling or repurpose them for some other use, such as
energy from waste?

3. Reuse

Once you have optimised your product size, we should reuse it many times to extend its lifespan: would that box work better if it were made of a material such as plastic that you could clean and reuse?

4. Recycle

Only once the box reaches the end of its life, we should recycle it. But we should also make sure it is easy to recycle too!
